Washington Poe : ウィキペディア英語版 | Washington Poe Washington Poe (July 13, 1800 – October 7, 1876) was an American Whig politician and lawyer from Georgia. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Poe studied law and was admitted to the Georgia bar. In 1841, he was elected mayor of Macon, Georgia. He had been solicitor-general for the Macon circuit. During the American Civil War, he was the postmaster of Macon, Georgia.〔'Civil War Macon-The History of a Confederate City,' Richard W. Iobst, Mercer University Press: 2009, pg. 445-446〕 In 1844, Poe was elected to the United States House of Representatives, but declined the election.〔(Macon Telegraph & Messenger )〕 Poe was a delegate to ''The Georgia Secession Convention of 1861''—voting in favor of secession and signing Georgia's Ordinance of Secession on January 19, 1861. ==See also==
